Abstract

The movement of film through the gate is in a series of jerks each jerk corresponding to a film frame. In order to smooth out the jerks between the gate and film spools, loops are formed in the film. Correct functioning of the film trans port is sensed in this invention by a feeler (3) pressing lightly on the film loop. The arm (2) supporting the feeler passes between two electrical contacts (1, 5) and in the absence of a loop closes a contact (1). When running normally, the loop causes both contacts to remain open, but if the loop changes shape substantially due to film jamming or ending, one set of contacts will close and this may be arranged to stop the drive motor, thus preventing damage to film or drive.
