Abstract
The dispersion of a beam in monochromatic radiation in a spectroscopic instrument is effected in order to form and study spectral images. A system of three monochromators in series is used to increase resolution while reducing ghosting and parasitic light. A dispersive system is formed from three monochromators in series where the beam is reflected by spherical mirrors (M1-6) through optical slits (F1-4) onto gratings (R1R2R3). The middle monochromator uses the output slit of the first and the input slit of the third monochromator. The slits and gratings are mounted on a common rotating axis. The beam to be decomposed is directed and focussed by the mirrors onto the gratings and slits in the form of parallel rays.
