Abstract

This flexible fire curtain for distribution ducts, avoids installation difficulties associated with rigid curtains. It is composed of flexible steel sheet covers (11, 12) which enclose a mineral wool thermal insulating material (14). The wool is lightly compressed and the steel sheets are therefore held together by wire ties (13). At a flange connection (2) of the duct (1), channel guides are provided (3, 5), in which one (11) of the steel sheets slides. Guide rails (7, 4) ensure that the curtain slides smoothly into position from outside the duct when required. The curtain is driven by a chain (17) from a motor (15), and ribs (19) are provided so that the duct wall is sealed when the curtain is open or closed. In the case of large structures, internal steel ribs (20) prevent buckling of the curtain.
