Abstract

Bactericidal, insecticidal or fungicidal mixt. based on dicyandiamide and ammonium nitrate contains 4-30 (pref. ca 10) wt. % (based on the total mixt.) of silicon dioxide. The mixt. is converted into a smoke by igniting by means of a wick, the reaction continuing unaided until all of the matl. has been converted into smoke. The silicon dioxide (which is by itself chemically and biologically inert) acts as an accelerator, so that the ignition reaction is self-sustaining. With silicon dioxide concns. below ca 10%, the reaction is not self-sustaining.
