Abstract

Cavity oscillator, in the form of a cylinder having a height appreciably less than its diameter, employing variable capacitance diodes to adjust the cavity operating frequency, producing a high spectral purity output. The diodes are situated in notches in the cavity walls, the axes of the notches being parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cavity, the notches themselves having the form of a part cylinder. Oscillation mode may be adjusted mechanically by means of a centrally placed piston. The cavity has one detachable side to allow assembly and a recess in the vertical wall to take a rectangular waveguide.
