Abstract

The steel framed box mattress, designed to rigidly support and permit aeration of an upper mattress, is a ladder frame (1, 3, 5) of welded rectangular hollow sectioned steel members, with intermediate cross-members (5) arranged with corners pointing upwards and supporting closely and equally spaced longitudinal steel rods (6). The rods or wires (6) are welded onto the cross-members and project through slots into the end cross-members or outer frame members (3), there to be fixed. The wires (6) can be plastic coated and welded onto similarly coated cross-members (5e which can embody projections locating the wires (6) or can have perforated lips supporting the wires (6).
