Abstract

Dentifrice compsn. contains >=0.08 wt.% of a fluorosilicate in a dentifrice vehicle. The compsn. prevents cumulation and/or formation of dental plaque and/or tartar, thus avoiding caries formation and peridontitis e.g. gingivitis. Thefluorosilicate is pref. that of NH4, Li, K, Na, Cd, Ca, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, Mn, Mg, Ag, Ni, Sr or Zn partic. Mg. The compsn. generally contains 0.1-2 wt.% (pref. 0.25-0.5 wt.%)fluorosilicate. The compsn. pref. contains a wetting agent esp. ethanol, and has pH 2-6 (pref. 2-2.5) being adjusted with an acid such as citric, tartaric, acetic etc. The compsn. may contain one or more germicides, e.g. phenol-type, quat. ammonium types, zinc chloride, benzoic acid etc. and is presented in a suitable form such as a mouth wash, dental paste or dental powder.
