Abstract
A piezoelectric transducer is mounted in a box (12) attached to a pipe (10). The transducer is suspended by means of the output wire (21) and earth connexion in order to maximise its sensitivity to vibrations. The transducer is tuned by a coil (31) and the output passed to a narrow band filter (32) and then amplified (33). This signal is rectified (34) for application to a recording instrument (35) or it is applied to an alarm circuit (36) where a comparator (37) compares the signal with a reference signal (Vr) to operate the alarm (45) if the reference signal is exceeded. The box is filled with an incompressible fluid such as oil through a screw plug (25) opening.
