Abstract

Cushioning, with an outer envelope of sealing film and a fabric or plastic material, is made by forming an enclosed bag with an opening for filling with foamable material before its expansion, placing this bag in a two-part foaming mould connected to a vacuum, filling and foaming the interior, releasing from the mould and closing the bag over the expanded contents. The bag is made by welding together two sheets, the sealing film being outside and with an intermediate layer of similar material, the bag is then turned inside out and at least the mid part of the intermediate film is cut away before loading the bag into the mould, it is finally cut off after moulding the bag. The process minimises hand operations, avoids unsightly weld lines.
