Abstract

14,15-Dihydro eburnamenine-14-thione (vincathione) (I) is a cerebral oxygenator and vasoregulator, useful in the treatment of cerebral insufficiency, cerebral-vascular accidents, and following cranial trauma. It is also useful as an intermediate. (I) is prepared from the 14-one (vincamone) by reaction with a phosphorus sulphur cpd. esp. P2S5. The reaction is effected at reflux temps. in a basic solvent, esp. pyridine.
