Abstract

An ice making machine in which water from a tank (6) is forced through a jacketted coil (1) by a pump (3) while a refrigerant is passed through the jacket (4) until an icy slurry is formed, and in which the slurry is ejected from the coil when another gas (CALORIGENE R. T. M.) is pumped through the jacket, includes a special switch to avoid choking the tube and pump due to hardening of the ice to too great a degree. A large electrode (8) immersed in the ice receiver tank (5) is connected electrically with a small electrode (10) housed inside a tube (11) through which flows a small quantity of the water. When the flow reaches a minimum permitted quantity as the ice forms, the level inside the receiver (5) falls, the large electrode (8) is no longer immersed and the circuit is switch to prevent further ice formation.
