Abstract
The three guides are orientated along three respective axes, and can slide relative to one another along these axes such that the position of the instrument platform (2) can be varied relative to its support mounting without altering the angular direction of the instrument. The vibration damping means are interposed between the mounting and the instrument and have the same damping characteristics in each of the three axial directions. Four multi-directional vibration dampers (4) are used and each comprises an elastomer envelope containing a viscous silicone fluid.
