Abstract

The american or french style timber shutters have multiple identical leaves (B) of rectangular section with long sides parallel, inclined at about 45 deg. and regularly spaced in a vertical frame. Strips (A) slot into grooves in the inclined leaves, thus filling the inter-leaf space which is normally left free, permitting a limited passage of air and light. This filling of the spaces results in a completely opaque shutter with enhanced rigidity whilst retaining the appearance of conventional louvred shutters. The system may be used to produce louvred shutters. The system may be used to produce large doors for e.g. garages.
