Abstract

Initial long lengths (6) are fed from a hopper (5) on to a conveyor (7) and onto carrier wheels (3). These are arranged in pairs on a long shaft and are rotated slowly by a belt drive (16, 17). Around each wheel periphery are notches (23, 26) which carry the lengths between jaws (25) and support them during the cutting off operation. Cut lengths drop into a container (27, 28). A cutting head (8) is mounted between each pair of carrier wheels and driven by a separate motor to form a single unit. All units can be positioned anywhere along the length of the machine and allow wide flexibility in use of the machine.
