Abstract

The brush (5) is first rotated while being held against a rotating brush (7) and the end of the bunch of fibres (10) is then shaped against a rotating cutting tool (8). After a further brushing the sides of the bunch of fibres are shaped by another rotating cutting tool (12). This is followed by at least one tapering operation in which the brush is rotated while being held against a grindstone (15) which is rotating in the same direction and a second grindstone (16) to thin the point of the brush. The process is then completed by a finishing operation in which the brush is rotated against an abrasive surface (18) which has the required finished profile.
