Abstract

Gas-liq. exchanges, partic. water-oxygen exchanges where it is necessary to treat large quantities of water in lakes, rivers or purificn. stations for large towns, are effected in systems which require only a small amt. of energy and which occupy little space. The appts. for oxygenating the water in a lake draws the water in through an annular orifice and the water rises in the concentric tubes under the action of a motor driven pump. The water descends in the central tube, drawing in air bubbles, by the reduced pressure, through a tube, fitted with a valve; the water reaches the base of the central tube and rises again in an annular tube. It is rejected into the lake after effecting oxygenation by its bubbles. The latter continue to rise up the annular tube and pass an adjustable nozzle where they commence to treat the incoming water. The partly deprived bubbles pass into a separator and leave for the atmos. by a tube. The water meets fresh air entering at the top of the central tube and mixes with it while descending the tube. The oxygen-water exchange is made under the most favourable conditions towards the base of the tubes where the press. is highest; the efficiency attained enables the quantity of gas introduced to be reduced to the minimum. The appts. is maintained in the floating position by an immersed, annular float.
