Abstract
Bicyclo(3,3,0)2-oxa octaines of formula (I) (where R=H, lower alkyl, or aryl R'=H, lower alkyl, or lower alkanoyl; R"=alkyl of 1-7C atoms) are prepd. by (a) reacting cpd. (II) with cpd. (III) (where R degrees and R'" are lower alkyl) to give cpd. (IV). (b) reacting (IV) with a reducing or a Grignard reagent to give a cpd. (V) and (c) hydrolysing (V) with a strong acid. Cpds. (I) are inters. for prostaglandins.
