Abstract

By gravity and vibration a profiled metal body is sunk into the soil to be compacted, its length being equal to the depth to be treated, to near the level at which compaction is to start and in particular to the level of the strong soil. The body is withdrawn while vibration continues, thus creating a bulb of compacted soil whose axis is that of the body used. The process is repeated at different points over the area to be treated until the compacted zones overlap. For insertion and removal of the body a crane can be used, with a vibrator unit attached to the top end and to the crane hook. The treatment points can be in parallel lines.
