Abstract

A frame comprising vertical struts (e.g. of I-section beam) joined at their ends by cross-struts has insulating blocks (e.g. expanded polystyrene) arranged between the struts and in encapsulated (pref. on-site) with a rigid plastic foam contg. particulate filler. The cross-struts of the frame are not encapsulated (since these are used for bolting the panel in position) and both faces of the panel are covered with a facing material (e.g. plasterboard on one face and foam-impregnated glass fibre mat coated with a plastic film on the other face). The density of the encapsulating material is pref. 200 kg/m3. A complete wall panel which is easy to fit in position can easily be mfd. on site.
