Abstract

Diffusion plant, for the extraction of solid and/or liq. substances from fruit pulps, comprises a rotating cylinder divided into several compartments by suitable partitions; each compartment is supplied with helical blades, which are fixed to the internal wall of the cylinder, together with a drainage tank, integral with the cylinder wall. The prodt. to be treated, grape residues or fruit pulp, is introduced into the charging hopper which is fitted with a dosing screw which directs the prodt. to the interior of the cylinder. A trough is fixed along the axis of the cylinder and houses an endless screw which turns continuously in the opposite direction to the rotation of the cylinder; this propels the prodt., which falls into the trough, from right to left; it is discharged into a press being added to the stock of exhausted matl. The feed water, heated to a suitable temp. is introduced at the extreme end of the cylinder so as to circulate in counter-current with respect to the prodt. As all the compartments are identical and the endless screws are standard, the costs of construction are reduced. The formation of pref. currents in the solvent liq. is practically impossible.
