Abstract

A machine for cutting the stalks of mushrooms at two different heights has a worktable with two pairs of guide rails which adapt to the dia. of the heads of the mushrooms sliding along them. The mushrooms stalks point downwards and come into contact successively with two cutter assemblies adjusted automatically as to their height during the motion of the mushrooms along the rails. The first cutter assembly has a feeler in contact with the bottom end of the mushroom stalk for regulating the height of the first cut. The second is hinged similarly to the first on one of the supports, being controlled in height by cams, the posn. of which is a function of the spacing of the guide rails. Device accurately cuts off the root section and the butt section, leaving a stalk half as long as the mushroom head width, without wastage. Increases prodn. per operative from 50 kg/hr. to around 75 kg/hr.
