Abstract

The application is to the suppression of audible noise due to vibration set up by leakage fields in metalwork surrounding the power supply transformer used, for example, in data link terminals or similar equipment. The transformer is separated from the equipment enclosure by a separate ferromagnetic screening plate typically placed midway between transformer and enclosure. This plate has perforations accounting for 10% to 70% of its superficial area, and is typically 0.25 to 3.2 mm thick. It is connected by resilient mountings to the transformer base. Any vibrations are induced in the perforated screen, and due to its mechanical properties the vibrations tend to be at a high level and above the audible threshold.
