Abstract

The cages (1) are arranged in several vertically spaced rows and beneath each extends a thin plastic sheet which receives droppings from the cages and which is unwound from a supply reel (3). Each sheet is drawn under the cages by a mechanical connection (6), the different connections being driven by a common motor drive (7). Under each take-up reel is a scraper (8) which is counterweighted so as to bear against the sheet and remove the droppings which fall into an external collection pit (9). The building containing the cages is air conditioned and the take-up reels are periodically driven to pull new lengths of sheet under the cages.
