Abstract

A process for preparing a polyurethane polymer for the construction of deformable elements capable of absorbing shock energy, in particular shock absorbers for rail vehicles, is described. In the process, one mole of a polymeric, hydroxy-terminated linear bifunctional polyol of a molecular weight from 1500 to 2500, preferably 2000, is reacted in the first phase with from 2.20 to 2.50 mol of 1,5-naphthylene diisocyanate and, in the second phase, the compound thus obtained is reacted with from 1 to 1.35 mol of an aliphatic, bi and/or tri-functional glycol of a molecular weight of less than 500, if appropriate containing an aromatic ring in the chain.
