Abstract
Fabrication of conical form tubes of constant wall thickness for boat masts, embodies the shaping of a drawn tube of varying thickness by hammering onto a matrix. Typically a drawn tube 1 metre long and with wall thickness varying longitudinally from 1 mm to 2 mm would be shaped by subjecting the thinner wall end to a hammering action until the tube thickness is constant at 2 mm. Pref. boat masts formed by such a method are in one piece without welding or connections and the process applies to all standard metals. The tubes have a flexibility which varies from one end to the other.
