Abstract
A lateral break fall ramp (35) on the main flow is formed in conjunction with an air compensation (39) chamber. The ramp and chamber are sited vertically above the point of entry of subsidiary pipes; their function being to reduce the ram effect of the descending column of waste water and the loss of siphon in subsidiary appliances. The ramp is shaped as steps (40, 42) cantilevering down at about 45 deg. from the rear pipe wall (25). Step risers (40) form air vents from the chamber (39) formed beneath. The descending column is retarded by the ramp and residual vacuum above relieved via the air vents from the reserve chamber.
