Abstract

The detector body (1) has an aperture (2) with a blind bore (3) leading from the latter, the body (1) being of insulating material with two embedded conductor wires (4, 5) each of which is secured to a supply lead (6, 9) at one end and having a plate (7, 8) at the other end located in the blind bore (3) so that the plates (7, 8) face each other. The blind bore is filled with mercury (10) and the aperture (2) is filled with an organic compound (11) with a known fusion point, e.g. between 30 and 70 degrees centigrade. The organic compound is retained by ribs (12) around the wall of the aperture (2) and upon the fusion temperature being exceeded allows the mercury (10) to be released from the bore (3) so that the alarm circuit connected to the conductor wires (4, 5) is opened.
