Abstract

A principal winding circuit connects the principal winding to the A.C. source. A switching circuit is connected between the starting winding and the A.C. source and passes from a non-conducting state during which a sum voltage (Vs) is developed, to a conducting state in which the current is applied to the starting winding. A reference circuit produces a reference signal tied to the phase of the voltage of the A.C. source and a control circuit determines the state of the switching circuit as a function of the phase displacement between the sum voltage and the reference signal.
