Abstract
The crank (1) swivels on pin (2) which is fixed. A spring (3) around this pin tends to turn the crank in collision. A lip (4) engages in swivelling device (5), pivoted on pin (6) and carrying a bracket (7) carrying a hook (8), engaging in lip (4). The cushioned part (9) is normally level with the rest of the seat and has a spring (10) to push it up when released. The spring is compressed and retained by lever device (11). In a collision the cranks (7) and (11) move forward, freeing the spring (10) so that the passenger's thighs are raised. This tends to throw him backwards, neutralising his otherwise forward movement.
