Abstract

A pump (1) for a washing machine is surrounded by a shroud with a portion (3) located between the impeller blades (5) and the motor (2) which carries a flange (10) which fits into a similar flange (13) which is recessed so as to form a good seal, and when secured by bolts (14), forms an integral motor and pump unit. The shroud is also shaped with a central flange (8) through which passes the end of the motor spindle (9) for attachment to the impeller, and inside the chamber formed by this flange (8) is a cup shaped sealing ring (16) which houses a spring to seal the joint between the spindle (9) and the boss on the impeller.
