Abstract

A process where a sheet of glass is suspended in a vertical position using several clamps, heated and then bent to the desired shape in a press followed by quenching. The novelty is that the two outside clamps, situated near the vertical edges of the sheet, exert a lower clamping force that the other clamps. This reduced clamping force should pref. be 25-50% lower than the force exerted by the other clamps, and it can be obtd. by using a larger distance on the horizontal suspension-beam between the point of suspension and the clamp. The process avoids weak zones in the glass where the curves are greatest.
