Abstract

A clay pigeon for use for night firing, carries a pyrotechnic layer on its concave inside face which is ignited when the clay pigeon is launched so that it is easily visible during its flight, the effect lasting for a few seconds. The layer may be applied as a pasty powdering mixture which is allowed to harden. The layer may be ignited by capacitative discharge, passing through a filament through a hole in the centre filled with an ignition charge, using a metallised or graphitic conductive layer over a 70mm dia. area around the central hole, and using metal washers or ribbons each end of the filament. Alternatively, printed circuits on the inside face may be used near the ignition charge. In another method, a small quantity of phosphor or chlorate paste may be ignited by friction.
