Abstract

The aluminium oxychloride hydrogel is of the approx. formula Al(OH)3 x.Al(OH)2Cl in which x is 3-15 and the atomic ratio of Al to Cl is 2:1 to 13:1. The agent may also contain alcohols, wound healing agents, anaesthetics and/or azulene. The agent brings about disinfection superior to that obtd. with conventional bactericides and at the same time effects an intensive cleansing of the anal region. Use after defecation effectively prevents the occurrence of haemorrhoids and existing haemorrhoids are effectively healed. The effectiveness of the agent is attributed to the astringent effect of the aluminium oxychloride hydrogel coupled with its strong adsorptive power.
