Abstract

A metal cutting parting off tool and holder which uses a simplified location between the two items. The holder has lower (5) and upper (4) parts clamped together by screws (6). In each of these is a locating groove (7, 8) which holds the parting off tool (2) steady. The profile of each groove is a double angle with straight faces. Top and bottom edges of the parting off tool are rounded so that, when clamped in the holder, point location is achieved. These rounded edges are produced by grinding and the location does not need great accuracy between the mating parts.
