Abstract

Glass sheets are cut by (a) marking with a cutter to trace a scratch on the surface using a cam, (b) producing a crack along the scratch, and (c) flexing the sheet to break the surplus glass away. In the second of these steps, a series of successive and opt. simultaneous shock are applied to the glass on the unscratched side along a line approx. parallel to the line of the scratch. When the scratch is sharply curved, the distance of the blow from the scratched line is decreased, and the weight of the blow is reduced. This process can be mechanised.
