Abstract

The title cpds. (I. where X = H) were prepd. by reducing the corresponding benzyl cpds. (I where X = PhCH2) where R = alkyl or aryl. In an example, 25g. I.HCl (X = PhCH2, R = iso-Pr) in MeOH was stirred 5 hr. at 40 degrees in the presence of 5 g Pd-C to give 29.5 g I. HCl (X = H, R = iso-Pr). Similarly prepd. was I.HCl (X=H, R = Ph).
