Abstract

A change of the element (1) resistance is detected by the change of phase which an a.c. current produces. A voltage, proportional to the voltage drop in the element, is one input (E1) of the detector. The second input (E2) is proportional to the voltage developed across an inductively coupled coil (1a) but phase shifted by 180 deg. The second input can also be provided by the voltage drop of a series resistor with the element. The detector itself is a saturated differential amplifier (10) producing two equal pulse trains when in equilibrium. The output operates the current trip (5).
