Abstract

Motorised cleaning rake is for removing weeds and other rubbish from the spaces between parallel bars of a grill used to screen the intake water to a hydro-electric plant. The rake has teeth which comb between the grill bars with a linear movement effected by the towing action of a flexible band, e.g. a metal strip, being wound onto a winch drum which may be driven by a geared motor. The rake can be made self-cleaning by extending its working stroke so that the rake teeth are cleaned out by teeth of a stationary comb. The winch drum is a more positive drive than friction rollers and less costly than a rack and pinion.
