Abstract

Process for making offset printing plates from negatives in which the negatives are treated to make them less opaque so that they can easily be mounted, and the mounted negatives are re-blackened before proceeding to make the printing plate. The negative is pref. lightened using an oxidising soln. and reblackened using a developer e.g. genol- hydroquinone, and a fixer e.g. based on a sodium hyposulphite. The copy is made onto a multimetal plate of the copper-chromium type, partic. after superimposing a negative mask on the mounting. Without the re-blackening fogging occurs and it may be necessary to use special lighting. With the above process a trial positive print may be made on paper in order to verify the correct setting and retouch if necessary.
