Abstract
The effluent streams containing CN- and Cr6+ ions are mixed with alkali to pH >9 (9.5) and maintd at this pH while they are purified together by oxidation with 200g/litre aq. solution of Caro acid and reduction with 200g/litre aq. soln. of 83% sodium hydrosulphite. A decantation stage lasting 1h may be included to remove deposits. Separate purificn processes are unified so that the effluent streams from different stages of chromium, zinc, or cadmium plating can be treated together.
