Abstract
Furosemide (I): is prepared by treating 2-cyano-4-sulphamoyl-5-chloro aniline with furfural to give the Schiff's base, reduction with a reducing agent or catalytically, followed by acid or alkaline hydrolysis of the cyano gp.
