Abstract

Surfaces with induced radioactivity contamination produced by wetting with H2O/D2O, esp. of heat exchanger components, are sand blasted using B2O3 particles down to the passivation layer on the base metal. The mixt of cleansing particles and abraded radioactive particles is made into an aq. suspension and then separated by mechanical/magnetic/ion exchange methods of filtration, after which the extracted material is rendered harmless.
