Abstract
A chloroprene homo- or co-polymer latex contg. 50-65% solids is mixed with an organic water-immiscible solvent contg. an adhesion-promoting resin in presence of a cationic or amphoteric surfactant until it has the viscosity of a mastic and forms a water-in-oil emulsions. Amphoteric or ethoxylated alkylamine surfactants may be dissolved in either phase before mixing, while cationic surfactants are dissolved in the organic phase, pref. in amt of 0.25-10 wt.% of the chloroprene polymer. the surfactant is pref. an alkoxylated fatty amine, esp. mixed with ethoxylated sorbitol oleate The mastics are suitable as adhesives and sealants e.g. for fixing wall or floor tiles. They are readily mixed without heavy equipment and remain useable for sufficient time without gelling. Adhesion properties are better and drying times shorter than for usual polychloroprene latex mastics.
