Abstract

Generation of turbulence in a fluid contained in a vertical cylindrical vessel fitted with a stirrer in its base, by mounting above the stirrer >=1 crossbar with faces parallel to the axis of the vessel. Pref. two crossbars are mounted one on top of the other with mutually perpendicular axes and at a level of 0.5 to 1.0 x the vessel dia. above a coaxial impeller at the base of the vessel. The vertical faces of the crossbars should be 0.1-0.05 x the vessel dia. In a polymsn. autoclave of 40 m3 capacity, contg. 6m depth of liq. vortex formation was suppressed by two crossbars each 200 mm deep and turbulence was generated from the crossbars to the liq. surface.
