Abstract

Polymers consisting mainly of units of formula: (where R is an opt. halogenaliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic gp., opt. contg. heteroatoms) are prepd. by reacting (A) a cpd. of formula with (B) dihydrophthalic acid anhydride, in equimolar quantities, at 0-200 (50-120) degrees C, opt. in the presence of an organic liquid, copolymerisable monomers, activators and/or initiators. Products are useful as sizes for paper, lacquers and as protective finishes for wood, metal and concrete surfaces.
