Abstract

A retaining ring for fitting on the end of a cop to prevent the end windings of a package from slipping off has axially extending teeth directed towards the package, >=1 of which forms with the surface of the cop, a slot in which the end of the yarn can be retained to prevent the last few yarn windings from unravelling. Pref. the rest of the tooth contacts the cop surface and the tip of the tooth is spaced from the cop surface so that the slot decreases in width towards the rest, the ring may be of plastic and may be resiliently retained on the cop and the outer surface of the ring may have a peripheral channel in which an elastic fixing ring is retained to radially contract the retaining ring.
