Abstract

1402795 Floor mounted spring door closers VEREINIGTE BAUBESCHLAGFABRIKEN GRETSCH & CO GmbH 2 Aug 1973 [5 Sept 1972] 36865/73 Heading E2M In a floor mounted door closer in which a closure spring 10 and a piston and cylinder damper 13 lying side by side are connected via a rocker arm 39 (pivotally mounted at 40), a coupling piece 37, and a crank 27 to a closer spindle 4, the crank 27 and arm 39 are of plate form, the coupling piece 37 is formed from two identical plates 36, and the ends 47, 49 of piston and spring are forked to engage the arm 39. The cylinder is pivotally mounted and the mountings for the cylinper, and spindle is arranged as shown in Fig. the parts to be lifted vertically out for replacement. The spring is adjusted by means of screw 70 and the coupling piece 37 has a cranked out portion 38 which can receive eccentric crank mounting pin 26 on rotation of the spindle 4. The main bearing for the spindle 4 comprises a cylindrical projection 16 which is received in a corresponding recess 17 at the base of the spindle, axial forces being taken by a ball 18 which engages in a bearing cone 19. A further bearing 22 fits around an upper cylindrical portion 25 of the spindle. The damper cylinder is provided with a bearing recess 9 and a bearing journal 59 which engage a corresponding projection and recess. The projection 59 consists of a sleeve 61 into which is mounted a fluid regulation screw valve 64 for the damper. Preferably the linkage between spring, damper, and spindle is arranged as shown in Fig. 2 when the device is in the 'closed position'; the pivot point 40 of the arm 39, and the articulation points 50, 51 of spring and damper being in approximate alignment, and with the two pivots 43, 44 of the coupling piece in approximate alignment with the point 51. In addition this alignment 43, 44, 51 preferably makes an angle of about 25‹ with the longitudinal edge of the device. In the region of bearing 22 the spindle carries a detent groove (not shown) which is engaged by a spring loaded ball (not shown) when the door is in a predetermined open position.
