Abstract

A gas inlet at the bottom of a tank is fitted with an internal rotor leaving a narrow annular gap for the gas to stream through which is broken by narrow blades on the rotor thus producing fine even bubbles. With gas flow through the gaps >=10m/s, the inlet is self-cleaning, and power requirement is low because of small area rotor blades. The appts. is esp. useful as an aerator for crystalline suspensions, e.g. for oxygenating CaSO3 soln. formed during desulphuration of exhaust fumes to produce a crystalline ppte. of gypsum.
