Abstract

(A) Medicaments comprising a combination of (a) a natural or synthetic base with an eburnan skeleton or a salt or N-oxide thereof and (b) ascorbic acid/or a deriv. thereof. (B) Ascorbates of bases with an eburnan skeleton are new. The medicaments are oral forms of the eburnan-type bases which are resorbed much more rapidly than the bases themselves. The therapeutic indices of the medicaments are at least as good as those of the free bases. They can be used to treat cerebrovascular disorders, etc. SPECIFICALLY CLAIMED Vincamine ascorbate. Rats were administered by means of a probe with (a) 300 mg/kg. vincamine base; (b) vincamine. HCl (300 mg/kg base); or (c) 300 mg/kg. vincamine base + 600 mg/kg. ascorbic acid, all in the form of aqs. solns. or suspensions. After 1 hr., the plasma levels of vincamine (mu g/ml.) were: (a) 1.9; (b) 10.9; (c) 28.3.
