Abstract

Optical tellurite glass having a high refractive index (nd =2.3), extreme dispersion (nF-nC, 0.05-0.11) and high IR-transmission in 4.0-7 u range, useful in scientific instrument construction, esp. for photooptics, correction of optical systems and refractometers, contains added halides and/or sulphates in molecular concns. 30% F; 35% Cl; 34% Br; 28% SO4, introduced as their stable main Gp. I-V metal cpds. or as stable side gp. element cpds. Pref. glass contains, (by mol.%), 48-99 TeO2, 1-40 BiOCl and/or 1-40 BiOBr and/or 1-52 PbBr2 and/or 1-51 PbCl2 and/or 1-29 PbF2; and opt. 30 alkali oxides (Li2O, Na2O, K2O, Rb2O), 23 alkaline earth oxides (BeO, MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO), 26 b2O3, 19 Al2O3, 33 Tl2O, 30 WO3, 21 Nb2O5, 15 Ta2O5, 10 ThO2, 9 La2O3, 18 TiO2, 22 PbO and/or 18 Bi2O3.
